Andrew's Top 10 Women Not Named Chavah Kinloch

Hi,
It's Andrew here Chavahs personal chef .....errrrr husband.

After reading Chavah's post last week about her top 10 men not named Andrew Kinloch, I
suggested she let me guest post one for us blokes which i titled 'My top 10 women not named
Chavah Kinloch' .

I didn't really understand what i was getting myself into until I started trying to compile a list,
but as a happily married man it was near on impossible to put this list together.

After #1 and 2 it got really really hard, which in my mind helps to show how much I love my wife (Brownie Points please Chavah :).

Oh and much love and a big thanks to Chavah for letting me be her FIRST EVER guest poster on
her blog.

So without further a do, here is 'Andrew's Top 10 Women Not Named Chavah Kinloch'.

1. Tyra Banks
This was pretty much the only no brainer on the list. Ironically i never really thought all that much of Tyra when she was a model. But after 'enduring' seasons of ANTM her personality, intelligence and her ability to build a successful career that didnt rely on her 'looks' started to impress me.

2. Jennifer Lopez
J-Lo was my celebrity crush as a teenager so it only made sense to give her the right of the number 2 spot on my list. She fell off in my opinion when
she dated and married/almost married guys like Marc Antony and Ben Affleck just because I expected a 'real' women to want a 'real' man not these metrosexual girl pants like Marc and Ben.

3. Daisy Fuentes
Okay so I never knew who she was until those pilates infomercials and even then I still didnt really care, sure she was a good looking woman but so what. But then I discovered my son Nas sat and watched Daisy EVERY SINGLE DAY on that pilates infomercial and if you changed the channel he cried til you put Daisy back on. So for the fact that she held my sons attention every day for almost a year gets her the number 3 spot.

4. Beyonce
Now Beyonce is a very beautiful woman and I certainly have never complained about watching one of her muisic videos but my two reasons for adding her was that Chavah is a massive beyonce fan and Beyonce is one of those celebrities that if your daughter had to admire someone you wouldn't object to it being
her.

5. Michelle Obama
A very glamourous and elegant woman again im not overly attracted to her as much as I admire her for being a strong, supportive and independant woman who seems to get when to let her hair down and have fun and when to be the 'first lady'.

6. Charlize Theron
Charlize gets the nod cos shes probably the only female actress i would include on a list of my favourite actors/ actresses. She absolutely killed it in Monster.

7. Lily Allen
I think Lily Allen is just plain funny, shes a talented musician who makes her music fun and for that reason she makes it onto my list.

8. Mariah Carey
The diva of all divas, Mariah was another childhood crush who to be honest only made the list because i thought she was pretty hot as a young
teenager and I was running out of people to get to 10.

9. Missy Elliott
I can't believe i just said that LOL. I used to hate on Missy hard, but at the end of the day in partnership with timbaland she has had a massive influence on HipHop and music in general and she has parlayed her musical talents into several successful business ventures that make me admire Missy.

10. Megan Fox
Megan Fox is a terrible actress. Pretty girl but terrible actress and by all accounts a complete idiot.
But much like Djimon Hounsou in Chavahs post she makes the list for that one scene in the first transformers movie, Guys you know the scene, the stomach shot when she is bending over looking at bumble bees engine. Its just a shame her personality makes her so terribly unattractive.

So there you have it folks, My top ten women not named Chavah Kinloch!

I Couldn't Just Pick One Today

Nor could I find a suitable pic online for this post.

There are two ways of exerting one's strength: One is pushing down, the other is pulling up.
-Busher T Washington.-

I, with a deeper instinct, choose a man who compels strength. Who makes enormous demands on me. Who does not doubt my courage or my toughness. Who does not believe me naive or innocent. Who has the courage to treat me like a woman.
-Anais Nin-

Don't wish me happiness - I don't expect to be happy it's gotten beyond that, somehow. Wish me courage and strength and a sense of humour - I will need them all.
-Anne Morrow Lindbergh-

So here's what I was resigned to use. This photo is from about 2 1/2 years ago. I was about halfway through losing my baby weight. It's me trying to show my bicep - I can't believe I'm sharing this photo. That line = definition. I kidd you not, touching it was rock hard. The line got longer and I got more of them. They became so prevalent I would just sit around and you could see the definition all over my arms. Not in that scary shemale way though. Thank you push ups and dumbells.

I know I look shocking but well...whatcha gonna do... It is what it is. I'm sweaty because I'd just finished working out and covered in paint because I'd also been painting that day. Such is my life. This is the real me. I miss feeling fit, I think I better get back to it. Hopefully I'm healed enough now and my body can take the punishment I dish out to it.

It's Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas

We intended to put our Christmas tree up last weekend but were so tired it never happened. We finally got around to it today. I'm so glad we did. Usually I'm that person that has her decorations up in November but I just haven't had the energy to dig all our gear out. Hubby pulled them out, the kids set to work and I cuddled an extremely frustrated teething baby.

I don't know why it happens but every time the tree goes up I get this overwhelming happy feeling. I'd forgotten all about that until I sat back and watched the children decorate. I think the kids did a great job. I can't wait till it's dark enough to just have the tree lights and the Christmas candles I've put out, on.

Here's a glimpse into our decorating day.
All my beautiful babies.

Haven't they grown? I can hardly believe it.

The Christmas corner.

Here's a video of the kids in the midst of decorating.

Why Do I Love Him?

The seafood pizza was the best pizza I have ever tasted in my life. Seriously.

Although, I'm yet to go to New York and Italy :D.

How Are You Going?

With your random act of kindness? Don't forget, the challenge and giveaway are still on. There are so many opportunities all around us, so take part. I just wanted to share with you these amazing examples - all by one person! Thank you Lisa for being such an inspiration.

Random Act of Kindness #1: GIVE away all my kids clothes that no longer fit. (1st Dec)

About 6 months ago, I came up with an idea which I shared on a parenting forum that I belong to. The idea was that we (mums of young kiddies) could GIVE AWAY our kids clothing when we no longer need them. With the price of new clothes, and the rate that our kids grow out of them, the idea of good, second hand clothing made sense in our house. Sahara goes through her clothes quickly with her being a busy and very messy girl at kindy, and Preston, well he just seems to grow out of stuff so quickly. ( I used to be a Trademe addict and sell anything and everything on there, but with the hike of their fee’s and the hassle of dealing with stupid questions and delayed payments, and sometimes not making any profit what-so-ever, I just couldn’t be
bothered.)

So..... the idea was to share what we had to get rid of, and if another mum asked if she could have them, there was no money that passed hands (except for postage costs), and no expectation for anything in return, except that when or if that mum was in a similar position to give clothes away, that she would list them on the forum and “pay it forward”. The idea went down really well with a lot of mum’s and hundreds of items of clothing have passed hands since then.

I hadn’t been through my kids clothes for a long time, so this week I sorted through their drawers and sorted about 5 large storage boxes of clothes, and over the past few days have been posting off box after box of clothes all around the country to mum’s for their kids.
It feels really good to know that these parents are saving money, and genuinely appreciate the gesture, some of whom I know aren’t in the position to financially afford to buy new clothes for their kids. One mum told me she is having twins in 2 months time, and with a toddler already she just hadn’t found the time or energy or money to start shopping for clothes for the twins. I don’t envy her waddling around the malls at this time of the year or in this humidity either!

So there it is, my first of many random acts of kindness.

Random Act of Kindness #2: Gave $5 to a little girl fundraising for a walk-a-thon(3rd Dec)
This afternoon I was rushing around trying to get to my parents on time for dinner. I was supposed to take drinks with me, so swung by a dairy on the way to buy something. When I came out of the store there was a little Maori girl, she must have been 8 or 9 years old, standing outside all on her own, asking customers as they came out if they'd sponsor her for her school walk-a-thon, and she had a little clip board for people to fill out. I was in such a rush that I apologized, said no and carried on walking to my car which was parked only a few metres away from her. This is pretty typical for me as 1) I rarely carry loose change, 2) I usually hav
e 2 kids with me and just want to get home and 3) am a bit weary of giving my money to people aka I'm bit of a tight arse hehehe. BUT when I got into my car I saw that I had $5 in gold coins in the centre console, which is very unusual for me. I only had this money because earlier today I had intended to repay a friend who'd bought something for me, but I'd forgotten to give it to her and after I'd texted her telling her I'd forgotten to give it to her, she'd told me to keep it (you know who you are!!). So, I grabbed it, raced back to this little girl, told her I didn't have time to fill in her form as I was in a rush, but put the money in her hand and gave her a smile and raced back to my car. She looked a bit dumbfounded, as I drove off and gave her a wave. I'm not sure if that $5 will actually make it towards her walk-a-thon fundraising, or if she decided that a t
offee pop and a mars bar from the dairy would be better, but either way, I'm sure she thought $5 was great, and I felt better for giving it to her. Good on her for taking an initiative and fundraising while alot of other kids would be sitting watching tv after school or playing xbox or playstation or something equally as productive.

Random Act of Kindness #3: Donating to Charity (12th Dec)

As most of you know, Donovan and I have our own IT business, Expedite, and we decided a few years ago to make a conscious effort to make a business donation to one worthy cause every year. We were approached by the Radio Network to be sponsors of their annual "Special Children's Christmas Party" and after hearing what they do, we were more than happy to donate.

The Special Children's Christmas Party enlists the sponsorship of hundreds of local businesses to provide an incredible christmas party for disabled and disadvantaged children in the community. There are between 1500 and 2300 children who are invited to the party, suffering from one or more
of the following; - life threatening illness, physical and intellectual impairment, domestic violence, or living in underprivileged circumstances. Between 350 - 550 Government organisations, local charities, societies, and special schools / kindergartens in each region are also selected, effectively covering all children facing challenges in life.

This year was our third year in supporting this great idea. The party is held in Auckland at the ASB Showgrounds in Greenlane, so you get an idea of the size of this thing!

Every year the sponsors are invited with their kids to attend the party so they can see first hand where their money has gone. So this morning we toddled along to the event with the kids and got a guided tour around the event. There were hundreds and hundred of kids, some more obviously affected than others, but equally as deserving of the treats that were in store for them. There were bouncy cas
tles, celebs, face painting, free food, free icecreams, animals for the kids to pat, carnival type rides, a live stage with dancers and singers and Santa of course! And the "secret santa cave" where families line up and get taken through a dimly lit "cave" with a big empty bag, and come out the other end with it filled to the brim with gifts. The gifts are all brand new and donated by sponsors or paid for by sponsors, and it was really a sight to see the piles and piles and piles of gifts in there, from soft-toys to games and everything inbetween...it really did look like Santa's secret cave of presents!

As sponsors we got to go up to the corporate box to get a better view of the event, and our own kids got a soft toy each which was lovely.

Sahara threw a little tantrum while we were there, cause she didn't want to share her ice cream with her brother, and Donovan and I were verging on the edge of wanting to give her a swift kick up the butt so we decided to leave. She sulked in the car on the drive home before falling asleep. Although she acted like a spoilt little diva, which compared to alot of the kids at the party, she probably is, Donovan and I both agreed that diva or not, that after today we perhaps needed the reminder that we are very fortunate to be blessed with two happy (most of the time) and HEALTHY children.

If you are interested in donating to next years parties (they have parties in various regions all over NZ), please check out their website www.sccpnz.co.nz

So are you inspired yet? Good - now go for it! Have you already completed your RAK? Don't forget to let me know so I can enter you. I've spotted a few of them around :) Keep em coming!

Imaginary Boyfriend List

I came across this Imaginary Boyfriend List today and it made me chuckle. I don't actually sit around thinking about guys, it doesn't cross my mind and who has time to do that anyway? Well, normally I don't but my kids are in bed now so lets go for it lol. I don't believe my husband will die from a heart-attack reading this because he mocks me regularly about my #1.
  1. Seth Rogen - I'm serious. Goofy, funny and reminds me of my husband.

  2. Will Smith - My childhood sweetheart :P

  3. Dijmon Hounsou - Ladies, if you haven't seen Never Back Down, you need to watch it for the 5 second shot lol. I don't usually ogle over people, I don't want to disrespect my husband but after THE shot I said something like "Oh my gosh." to which my SIL replied "I know, I was thinking that too."

  4. Jason Statham - Love the gruffness.

  5. Arnold Schwarzenegger - I love his cockyness and the discipline he shows to get the body he has.
  6. Deron Williams - Pretty boy ball player.

  7. Trace Adkins - Ivanka Trump wasn't the only one to end up smitten after that series of Celebrity Apprentice. What a gentleman.

  8. Wentworth Miller - I've watched every episode of Prison Break. Every. Single. Episode.

  9. Jensen Ackles - I looove supernatural shows. Supernatural's my favourite though.

  10. Kobra Konvict (long braids)-The back story: I met Boo Yaa Tribe many moons ago and to make a long story short, Kobra asked for my number. Then at a gig he was doing he asked an old friend if I was there. I wasn't, I was working but thanks for caring lol.
Wow, that took a lot of effort. It was hard for me to think of 10! Heck, after 3 I was done lol. Just so we're clear. My hubby is still the real #1. I'm trying not to feel guilty for this post.

I Am So Excited

(Unlike this little guy!)

About my upcoming 'new' blog. I hope you are too! Right now I'm going through the design process, trying to figure out exactly what I want and how to Chavahify it. Yes, I know that's not a real word.

If you didn't know, I'm verrrry particular about some things. My towels have to be folded a certain way, my cushions have to be puffed, the books must line up properly, heaven forbid the corners of my rug get kicked up. Well, my new blog is getting this treatment too. I can't help it. So please forgive me if it takes a while for me to launch it. It's only taking so long because I'm pouring my soul into it so you can enjoy it as much as I do. I feel the need to perfect it as much as possible before we all move on over. So to my IE using readers, I'm sorry. We're working overtime to get it done.

Buttttttt like I said. I'm so excited!!!!

Don't forget to enter the Random Act of Kindness Challenge and Giveaway. Every entry receives a reward and you all go in the draw to win an original painting (there are three to be won). Seriously, where else are you going to get that?! Spread some cheer this Christmas season.

Being an Abstract and Mixed Media Artist in Invercargill

You won't find too many abstract and mixed media artists in Southern New Zealand. You put your art in galleries and yes, your art does stand out but you're unsure whether or not that's a good thing. I often wonder if I should just unleash the crazy out-there side of myself and create all the ridiculous series of artwork that my husband and I joke about. The political, controversial and questionable works of art that seem to be what you need to make a name for yourself nowadays.

Most galleries also want you to have one style of work. It's really hard to figure out which direction you want to take when you're like myself and just can't sit still to do one thing and one thing only. I HAVE to be free. I hate having to fit into a mould and I despise being told what to do (aye Mum lol). I can however, take direction and be taught. I do enjoy learning.
As an artist you come to a fork in the road and you face the dilema of whether you create for yourself or you create for others. Ideally you can find a great compromise. Maybe you're really lucky and what you create for yourself is what others want but more oftehn than not...that's not that case. In my own case, there are certain things that have been created purely for others, as that's what is more marketable and helps feed my family. You hear about it happening a lot in the music industry, well, it happens in the art world too.

Down here in Invercargill, Southland we have a lot of talented landscape artists. Everywhere you go you'll find scenes of nature, farm life, old buildings...and why not? The beautiful surroundings here really are inspiring. Having the ability to paint these realism images is an amazing talent. I do however feel the need to speak up for abstract artists. We see things differently. It may look easy to create an abstract painting BUT putting together an image that translates into emotions and stories is no easy feat. We're looking at the same things but translating them in our own way.

Take this mixed media painting for example:

This painting is called Chilli Mussels. Based on seafood, it's colours were inspired by the mussel's shell, the mussel itself and a marinating chilli sauce. A painting was created that was based on a meal, yet it's not a still life.

Or this painting:

Scorhed Earth -A representation of the many layers of the earth, the movement over generations and the plaguing heat we now experience.

Creating such images is more than 'lets just pour the paint on'. Believe it or not there is a thought out process that helps form the overall picture in my mind. Each stroke is there to create the perfect balance. Any more or any less and the whole dynamic of the painting could change.

There are also other examples of abstract, stylised contemporary and mixed media art like these:
Stylised textured art.
Symbolic Abstract Art.
Pop Culture art.

Each one of these paintings was inspired by my own feelings and memories. I don't have a whole lot of hollaballoo arty speak to interpret them. I hope they speak for themselves. I know why they were created but I leave the interpretation up to the viewer. They may not look exactly like a photograph but I never intended them to. That's not me, that's not my style and I love meeting others like myself.
Are you an abstract or mixed media southern artist? Do you know of one? If so contact me chavahkinloch@xtra.co.nz I would love to hear from you. I'm beginning to find a few of you, I'd love to meet more. In fact, artists from everywhere feel free to contact me any time. I'd love to get to know you.
All paintings in this post are by artist Chavah Kinloch.

  2. Scorched Earth - SOLD
  3. Valley of Gold - SOLD
  4. Love Story - SOLD
  5. Desperate Loneliness - SOLD

Family Trip to Milford Sound

Yesterday we took the kids on a loooong bus ride from Invercargill to Milford Sound. We woke up to get ready to leave at 5:30am and arrived home at 6:00pm. Bus ride there, boat ride and lunch, then bus ride home. 12 hours in small inclosed spaces with 4 children...and it was actually ok! They were extremely well behaved (thank you!) and really loved their day out. Big thanks to hubby's work for putting on the event and to those that helped out with the kids. So grateful. It was lovely to have a few moments alone. :)
So here are some snapshots. Andrew got most of them this time around, I was on babywatch.
You drive over this waterfall.
Playing in the mini mountains of snow.
A Kea. They're all over the show out there.
The Chasm
We went up to this and everyone outside got wet hehe.
The kids looking out of the boat.
Dolphins playing.
Fur Seals sunbathing.
The majestic mountains and glacier.
Sooo stunning.

News News and More News

Ok so there are just a few things I need to update you all on.

First things first, some extra tips for my post about How to Write, Make a Portrait or Mural on the Wall.
  • My husband has informed me that you can now also use the new styled projectors. You just scan your image onto your PC, hook the projector up to the PC and then project the image onto the wall.
  • Fellow artist Molly Rangiwai showed me this awesome new projector. It does 3D objects! I want one. No idea when I'd use it but it's really cool.
Projected 3D Banana

Now, I've been told that some of you guys are having trouble loading this blog. I am so sorry! I have looked into the problem and am sad to say there is nothing I can do to fix it. It is an issue with blogger and IE, which they've known about since March but have not resolved. So with that said I have three recommendations.
  1. Subscribe to my feed on facebook (this is where I'm hoping you're reading this right now if you're one of the readers with this specific loading issue). Here is a link to add me as a friend and here is my Networked Blogs link.

  2. Download a new browser for your PC. I myself used Chrome which is a gazillion times faster to use than IE so really, just change, it's much better. Your PC will thank you for it. You can download it for free from here.

  3. If by some stroke of luck you're IE has let you onto my site today, see that box on the right top hand side of my blog? The one that says subscribe via email. Simply put in your email address, press subscribe, confirm the link in your email and you will never miss a post again! Yay :D
On that note, I have to let you know that there will be some changes coming to my blog in the near future. Very soon I will begin putting together this exact blog, with a new layout and other extras over on wordpress. Don't worry, you won't have to do anything, I will do it all for you but I wanted to give you a heads up that change is a-comin'. Hopefully this will rid the IE error forever.

The Random Act of Kindness Challenge has been launched! If you haven't read this post, please do. Every entry gets a prize and you go in the draw to win your very own Chavah Kinloch original painting. Plus, the world needs more people trying to make it a happier place and what better time of year to do this than the Christmas season. Share a little kindness please.

and last but not least....

I got a new haircut! I love, love, love it. My hairstylist is the best.

Old do.

New do.

Weekend Rundown

We had a great weekend in the Kinloch household. Thrift stores, sales, the Santa parade, a trip out of town pick up some paintings from a gallery, a little redecorating, my first attempt at reupholstering, roast dinner, a romantic comedy on the couch with my hubby, picnic on the patio, reading magazines, jokes with the kids, visits from friends and probably more that I've forgotten about. It was fantastic. Come Sunday night though I began to feel really under the weather. Thankfully it was short lived and I'm already feeling like the regular me again.

Here are some photos:

I spotted these green goblets about a month ago and fell in love with them instantly. I went in to see if they were still there on the weekend and then left with a box full of them. I had prewarned the hubby. When I purchased them from 'Habitat' (for humanity lol) the women serving me asked a million questions. They just couldn't understand why I wanted them. I think they're perfect!

I had to take this snapshot. I was watching her dry her hair and had one of those sentimental moments. Isn't she beautiful? She's also incredibly smart, athletic, kind, gentle, able to rough it and everything you could want in a daughter. I am so blessed. Sometimes I just can't believe my luck.

I Just Received My Own Random Act of Kindness

Freshly cut front yard.
I love watching the kids play outside.
Rugby ball, playground and hubbys old string ball set.

Half of the back yard.
There's always a bike dumped somewhere outside
instead of put in the shed where they belong lol.

Some lovely friends of our just showed up and spent all afternoon cutting our lawns. We have a massive yard and it was resembling a jungle so this was a HUGE job. The back part of the yard hadn't been touched since before winter... and throughout winter it took a thrashing. Thankfully my husband was home to give them a hand. He was home looking after me, I felt like crap today.

I am so amazed by their efforts and the time they took to help us. We have a lot going on as a young family and between work, children, new babies and bad weather there really hasn't been a time for us to get out and attack the jungle. Anything we've done has been restricted to indoors. Today has been the most beautiful day, a great way to welcome the first official day of summer.

So right now a big thank you to the small group of friends who have welcomed us as their adopted-family. We love your visits and the fact you take time out to offer to help us where we need it the most.

Hopefully the garden starts blooming soon so it will feel like our summery home again. Then we can get the basketball hoop up and have a bbq to really welcome the season.

The Random Act of Kindness Challenge and Giveaway

It's here, it's here! The biggest giveaway yet. More unique prizes, just for you. You want to be part of this because not only do you feel like a better person for taking part, you'll be rewarded for your kindness and efforts. This is my gift to you, my way of saying thank you.

If you've never heard of The Random Act of Kindness Challenge and Giveaway, take a few seconds to read this previous post of mine and last years entries.

Feel those warm fuzzies? Good. They're telling you this is good and you should join in. Don't just read this and think "Oh wow, that's a good idea." Take part. It doesn't have to be much but I urge you to consciously make the decision to be on the lookout for an opportunity to create happiness for others around you.

This year I take my example from The NieNie Dialogues. I choose Nie because I find her an inspiration. If you don't know who NieNie is here's a brief explainaion.

NieNie is short for Stephanie Nielson, she is a young Mother of four originally from Utah who was in an unfortunate accident with the love of her life last year. The small plane they were on crashed. During the crash her husband got out and realised she wasn't with him. He was calling her name outside, she was calling his inside. The plane was on fire. Mr Nielson ran back into the flames to retrieve his wife. He rescued her. Mr Nielson suffered a broken back and burns while Stephanie received burns to over 80% of her body. Stephanie flat lined twice. After a long year and many, many surgeries as well as unimagineable pain both physically and emotionally they are beginning to get back to as regular a life as they can. What I love about this couple is that you can see their love. You can see how strong it is before, during and after the recent events. Before the accident they lived their best lives going out of their way to perform their own Random Acts of Kindness like the one below. Now, after the accident, they're still at it. Living life to the fullest and sharing everything that is good and kind with everyone they meet.

So without further ado, here is an example of a Random Act of Kindness via Stephanie.

(Text and images from NieNie Dialogues)

Friday I went with the children and my Mesa-sister Lindsay (aka Ms. Jones) and her daughters downtown to hide happy fortunes.

We hoped some Mesa citizens (and snowbirds, aka: senior cits from Minnesota) would find them, read them and feel good.

Simple as that.

We wrote the happy fortunes on slips of paper attaching
"read me" stickies on them.

Popular fortunes include:

"you are special"
"someone loves you"
"God loves you"
"you are beautiful"
"you are perfect"
"you are like a rainbow"
"you are pretty like a unicorn"

and so on and so forth.

This was the happiest moment of the day.
A passerby picks up a happy fortune, reads it, smiles and walks away.

It felt good.
I think it read:
"God loves you".

Maybe he has never heard that before or maybe he needed to hear it today-whatever it did, it worked, because he smiled and slipped the small paper with Claire's picture of a unicorn on it into his shirt pocket and walked away.

And that, my friends, is how it's done. You think of a way to make the world a better place to live and then you do it. It's as simple as that.

Here are the details:
